A hold on the short horizon — the daily chart is a strong downtrend, down about 50 percent from its high, so wait for the tape to turn. But a Buy on the medium and long horizons: this is a fast-growing digital bank at a PEG of 0.72 that just beat and raised guidance, yet the stock fell anyway.

SoFi is a digital-only bank and fintech super-app in the US — deposits, loans, investing and a technology platform in one, growing members and revenue fast while it builds durable profitability.

The business

The business is firing: second-quarter revenue of one-point-two billion dollars, up forty percent, with the full-year revenue outlook raised, fifteen-point-eight million members — up thirty-five percent — and a record fourteen-point-eight billion dollars of loan originations across personal, student and home loans. The one thing still developing is profitability: return on equity is about seven percent, so it is profitable but not yet at a mature bank's returns. The market wanted more — the stock actually fell six percent on the print.

The price

After falling about fifty percent from its high, the valuation is undemanding for the growth: roughly twenty times forward earnings, but a price-earnings-to-growth ratio of zero-point-seven-two, well under one. Analysts see about twenty-one percent upside to a mean target near twenty dollars — but note the consensus is only a hold, with a wide range from twelve to thirty dollars. That split is the real story: the market is arguing about how quickly the profitability ramp and the credit cycle play out, not about the growth.

The timing

This is why the short-term call is hold. The daily and weekly trends are down, price is well below its moving averages, and the stock is trying to base near fifteen dollars at its 52-week-low support after the earnings dip. That can be the start of a bottom, but it is not confirmed. A short-term buyer wants to see a reclaim of the seventeen-dollar area or a clear higher low first; a medium or long-term investor can accumulate a half-size position here and add as the tape turns.

What could go wrong

The honest risks: the biggest is the credit cycle — SoFi is a lender, so a consumer-credit downturn would raise loan losses and hit the engine. Technically, a break of the fourteen-eighty-eight low would say the base failed and open the low-twelve-dollar bear case. And the whole bull thesis rests on profitability improving from here — if the return-on-equity ramp stalls, the cheap PEG stays cheap for longer. The floor is the valuation itself and a business still growing forty percent.

Over twelve months the base case is about nineteen dollars, a fifty-five percent probability — growth holds near forty percent and the drawdown re-rates toward consensus. The bull case is about twenty-four dollars at twenty-five percent if profitability inflects. The bear case is about twelve dollars at twenty percent on a credit downturn. That is a probability-weighted value near eighteen dollars, a wide spread reflecting the split view.

The verdict

Short HOLDMedium BUYLong BUY

So: a hold today on the short-term chart — wait for the downtrend to turn before trading it — but a buy on the medium and long horizons, where you get a forty-percent-growth digital bank at a PEG under one after a fifty-percent drawdown, with guidance just raised. Accumulate a half-size at support, add on a reclaim of seventeen dollars. Educational, not advice — the credit cycle is the thing to watch.
