Hubbell is a 138-year-old maker of grid and electrical infrastructure, riding a strong driver of 80 on grid electrification and data-center power. But the call is HOLD on every horizon: it trades ~28.5x earnings against a 23x Industrials rich line, so the Valuation-Ceiling gate caps it. Grid tailwind, expensive price.

Re-presenting the Donatien Investment report on Hubbell (NYSE:HUBB), dated 20 July 2026, at US$484.98. HOLD on the short, medium and long horizons.

Picks-and-shovels of the grid

Hubbell is a hundred-and-thirty-eight-year-old American maker of electrical and utility infrastructure, run through two segments. Utility Solutions supplies the hardware that moves and manages electricity on the grid — connectors, insulators, arresters, metering and grid-communications gear — selling to the utilities that are now spending heavily to harden and expand the network. Electrical Solutions makes wiring devices, lighting and controls for commercial and industrial buildings. Business quality is a solid seventy-eight, and the driver is a strong eighty: this is a direct beneficiary of grid electrification and data-center power demand.

Grid tailwind, expensive price

The tailwind is real, but so is the price. On trailing clean earnings Hubbell trades around twenty-eight-and-a-half times, above the twenty-three-times rich line for Industrials, which puts the valuation pillar at thirty-eight in the expensive band. That flipped the valuation-ceiling gate to triggered this refresh, and it caps the signal at hold. This is the recurring theme across the market's quality compounders: a genuine multi-year demand story that the share price has already discounted. A strong driver does not override an expensive entry — it just makes waiting for a better one harder.

A hold into Q2 earnings

Timing and integration round out the hold. The stock sits above its two-hundred-day average but momentum is soft into Q2 earnings on the twenty-eighth of July, and the timing pillar is fifty-four. On top of that, the three-billion-dollar NSI acquisition still has to integrate cleanly. The bear case is near four hundred and twenty-five dollars, a twelve per cent drawdown, where a stagflation-lite energy shock dents non-residential construction, rates stay high and compress the multiple toward twenty times, and rivals like nVent and Eaton press on electrical margins. Patience on the entry is the honest call.
